Sporting Legend - Mark Versey

A close friend of mine Mark died 1 year ago. His death was a shock to all that new him and left his family was a massive lose.
This blog is dedicated to Mark and to the great work he did all around the world.

As a lad I remember mark as a laid back boy that loved his sport and was good at most he tried. Football, cricket, golf, tennis and table tennis and even hedge jumping which was actually one we made up. Many family holidays where spend in caravans with mark and his family and every one I remember with joy.

He also loved his music and playing in the salvation army band, I'm not sure which he was better at (sport or music) but he love both. In fact he loved life.

Mark left school and went to work in a bank. Years later when the bank offered staff voluntary redundancy mark took it and left the bank even after they offered him a better salary to to keep him he didn't take it.

You see mark new god had a bigger better plan for him and so marked followed his faith and started to work for AIS, a Christian sports group. His work took him all  around the world and through God, Mark changed life's.

Mark was a massive influence to many Christians and non Christians world wide and his fun loving nature mad him friends everywhere he went.

Mark love his work, and although I used to joke and tell him to get a real job, I knew mark was where he was meant to be.

Mark could have made a great career at the bank and would have made if far and got a nice wage for it, but mark new what he needed to do and trusted in god.

The night before mark died he stood up at band practise and told the band that he was ready to be with the lord in heaven. He died the next day aged 38.
Mark knew god would lead him if he placed his life in his hands. He new that he would have been financially well of is he stayed at the bank but he choose to go and work for next to nothing and live by faith.

See Mark know God had a already got big ideas for him and rather than a bright future in the world of banking, even brighter future in the world of God.

Could you live by faith? Could you follow and trust 100% in god?

Mark still touches lives today through his memory and projects he helped set up. His life was celebrate all over the world on the day of his funeral. A true sporting legend.

A fund has been set up to remember Mark and support all the good he did.

Mark Versey Memorial Fund.
